AP
World is a dynamic course that examines the history of the world as a whole,
from 8000 B.C.E. through the present day. The 10th grade version of the AP World
course picks up where the 9th grade curriculum left off.
Our
studies will begin with a look at the changing relationship between the
individual and
government during the mid-eighteenth century.
The course journeys through time in a chronologically
thematic approach. That is, while we move through time, we also pay close
attention to themes that cross-cut history. The course makes its way through the
18th, 19th, and 20th centuries paying close attention to the entire globe, not
necessarily the impact of European impact upon those areas. Indeed, the College
Board limits the discussion of European topics to 30% of the course content.
The
course ends with a snapshot of the current time period, the 21st century. Issues
that face the world today will be related back to the discussions we had
concerning the thematic issues which exist throughout history.
The
purpose of the AP World History course is to develop greater understanding of
the evolution of global processes and contacts. This understanding is advanced
through a combination of selective factual knowledge and appropriate analytical
skills.
