AP
World is a dynamic course that examines the history of the world as a whole,
from 8000 B.C.E. through the present day. The 9th grade version of the course
lays the foundation for what students need to prepare for in the upcoming two
years.
The
Course begins with a discussion of what the College Board refers to as “Habits
of Mind,” which are important in determining HOW to study history. History is
huge...it is massive...it spans thousands of years and includes millions of
facts. Therefore, it is important to think about and study the HOW behind
historical research as well as the “WHAT.”
The
Course continues to discover early forms of human interaction, the basis of what
civilization is, and the beginning of the earliest forms of civilization
throughout the world.
The
Course moves forward by studying the expansion of those early forms of
civilization to the various sectors of the world. With a huge emphasis on
geography and historical chronology the course builds a base of understand that
amounts to a tour de force around the world of historical scholarship.
We end
our studies at the brink of the renaissance in Europe, and students will have
studied from 8000 BCE to around 1500 CE, with the rest to be completed in the
tenth grade.
